ANDREA SOMOGYI
Club - Pécs, Hungary

Forward - 183cm, 9 September 1986

It does not take a lot to sum up Andi. She may be young, but she has undoubtedly already made her mark on European basketball. A series of  European Championship medals, an All Star Five selection at U20 level, a World Championship appearance all stand as proof of Andi's towering talent.
Andrea got her affinity for basketball from her father, a former Hungarian national team and First Division star. Her main attributes as a seasoned, yet young professional are superb fundamentals, coolness under pressure, athleticism, technical excellence and great shooting hands. Andi is fast on her feet, able to read the game and has the knack of making the right decisions in critical situations. An outstanding feature of her game is speed off the mark, combined with the physical strength necessary to become a marquee player in modern women's basketball. The direction is only upwards for Andrea Somogyi, as she gains the experience and street wise knowhow, which only the years can add to an elite athlete's repertoire..

Enjoying her silver medal at the 2006 European Under 20 Championships and showing a clear set of heels to one of the Continent's most hyped young players, the Ukraine's Sasha Gorbunova earlier in the same tournament - ANDREA SOMOGYI made keen observers of international basketball talent sit up and take notice with a series of performances which gained her All Star selection and firmly set her on the road to future stardom in professional basketball.
"I look on the 2007 European U20 Championships and the success of our team there as an opportunity to serve as a springboard for my basketball career, helping it to take off and move towards the goals I have set for myself in professional sports." - ANDREA SOMOGYI,
October 2006
